Covid-19 Update September 2020

Our Lockdown Training Sessions in these challenging times have been a great success and so far, to my knowledge, we have not managed lose anyone over the Chase!

As we move into autumn, the nights are starting to draw in with sunset being just before 8:00pm tonight and by next Tuesday it will be 7:40pm.  With poor weather dusk may be even earlier so the committee has decided to adopt the following arrangements.

As from Tuesday 8th September we propose a 2 tier system of both Chase and road running training sessions with each members deciding for themselves which option they prefer.  It’s worth reiterating that England Athletics still maintain the government guidance for exercising which states:

“Exercising to take place for up to six people, outside whilst maintaining social distancing of 2 metres apart”.  Also, “Athletes should not congregate before or after training” and “return home” straight after the session.

Option 1 – From Cannock Leisure Centre

  1. Sessions will revert to winter road running from Cannock Leisure Centre Car Park (We won’t be allowed to gather inside the Leisure Centre until further notice).
  • Routes will be posted on the Harriers closed Face Book page the day before the session.  The route will NOT be read out before the session starts.
  • Specifically for road running, please give way to people walking along footpaths, do not run more than two-a-breast and check for traffic before running in the road.
  • Please adhere to the general rules set out below in Section 2

Option 2 – From the Chase

  1. Sessions will start one hour earlier at 5:30pm
  • Routes will be posted on the Harriers closed Face Book page the day before the session.  The route will NOT be read out before the session starts
  • Wear bright coloured clothing and carry a torch/head torch in case of poor lighting.
  • Please adhere to the general rules set out below in Section 2

General Rules

  1. Keep to the 2 metre social distancing rule throughout the training session
  • Organise yourselves into groups of 6 according to your required distance/pace.
  • Please make your own contact with members of your group by FB, messenger, email, etc. to arrange the session details.
  • If you are unsure who to run with, please either post on FB or message any member of the committee who will make sure you are accommodated. (Newer members please see section below)
  • Nominate a group leader to be responsible for making sure everyone in the group stays together, agreeing the route with other group members and ensuring all members complete the route safely.
  • Please contact Steve Burnham either prior to, or on the night if you have any queries or you’re unsure of the route.
  • Make sure at least one person in your group has a mobile phone with them in case of emergencies.
  • If possible, agree and stagger your starting time to ensure we reduce the number of people starting at 5:30pm/6:30pm.
  • Do not attend any training sessions if:
  1. You have a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature).
  1. You have a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual).
  1. You have a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.
  1. To protect others, do not go to places like a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital if you have any of these symptoms. Stay at home (self-isolate) and get a test.

New Members

It is the club’s objective to ensure all runners are catered for and nobody unintentionally runs on their own or gets left behind during training runs.  We are aware, being new to the club, you may not have found your comfortable pace, distance or group of people to run with.

We on the Harriers committee are of varying abilities and pace and as such one of us will ensure we run with you and make sure we fit you into a group to suit your needs.

Thank you for your co-operation and support and hopefully we get the club back to ‘normal’ in the not too distant future.

Best wishes and keep the Chase Harriers flag flying,

Chase Harriers Committee.
